RECON XL Ford Super C Suspension System with FOX 2.5 DSC Shocks
The WeldTec Designs RECON XL Suspension System with FOX 2.5 DSC shocks combines the proven suspension performance of the RECON system with the additional ground clearance and larger-tire capability of the XL package.
Designed specifically for Ford F-550 and F-600 Super C motorhomes, RECON XL is built around the weight, size, and driving characteristics of a completed RV—not an unloaded commercial chassis.
The suspension performance comes from the RECON system. The XL components then add additional height and clearance without requiring a completely different shock package.
RECON Performance Foundation
At the core of the system are upgraded springs, RV-specific shock tuning, steering stabilization, and suspension geometry correction designed to improve how a Super C rides and drives.
Larger Front Coil Springs
Upgraded front coil springs increase ride height while better supporting the weight of the completed motorhome.
The result is improved front suspension support, increased suspension travel, and better overall chassis control.
Progressive Rear Leaf Springs
WTD progressive-rate rear leaf springs replace the factory rear spring and block configuration.
The factory blocks are eliminated, allowing the progressive spring pack to provide the increased ride height while improving suspension movement and load control.
The progressive design allows the suspension to remain compliant during normal driving while progressively increasing support as suspension load increases.
FOX 2.5 Remote Reservoir DSC Shocks
The system uses FOX 2.5 remote reservoir shocks specifically valved for the Ford Super C RV application.
The larger 2.5-inch shock body provides increased oil capacity and improved heat management, while the remote reservoir helps maintain consistent damping during extended highway travel and repeated suspension movement.
What separates the FOX DSC package is the ability to independently adjust both high-speed and low-speed compression damping.
Why FOX DSC Matters
FOX Dual Speed Compression adjustment allows the suspension to be fine-tuned around your specific RV, load, road conditions, and driving preference.
Low-speed compression adjustment controls slower suspension movements such as:
- Body roll
- Braking dive
- Cornering
- Weight transfer
- Large chassis movements
Increasing low-speed compression can provide a firmer, more controlled feel without unnecessarily increasing harshness over sharp bumps.
High-speed compression adjustment controls faster shock movements caused by:
- Potholes
- Expansion joints
- Broken pavement
- Sharp road impacts
- Washboard roads
- Rough terrain
This gives the driver considerably more control over how the suspension reacts to changing road conditions.
High-speed and low-speed refer to shock shaft speed—not vehicle speed.
Instead of accepting one fixed damping setting, FOX DSC allows the suspension to be tuned around how your Super C is actually being used.
Dual FOX Steering Stabilizers
Dual FOX steering stabilizers complement the suspension system by helping control steering input and front-end movement.
This can improve steering feel and driver confidence, particularly during long highway drives and over inconsistent road surfaces.
Track Bar Geometry Correction
The RECON system includes the necessary track bar correction to maintain proper front axle position and suspension geometry after the increased ride height.
What Makes It RECON XL?
The XL package adds additional height to the RECON suspension system for increased ground clearance and larger tire fitment.
The XL components do not create additional suspension performance. The performance is already delivered by the RECON springs, shocks, steering stabilizers, and geometry corrections.
XL adds:
- 2″ front lift spacers
- 2.5″ heavy-duty rear lift blocks
- Front shock adapters
- Rear shock adapters
The shock adapters allow the same FOX 2.5 DSC shocks used with the RECON system to work with the increased XL ride height.
There is no need to purchase a completely different shock package simply because the vehicle is moving to the taller XL configuration.
Approximately 5″ of Total Lift
RECON XL typically increases the Super C to approximately 5 inches of total lift, depending on vehicle weight, chassis configuration, and existing ride height.
Because of the additional height, the RECON XL system also incorporates additional steering and suspension geometry correction.
The 5-inch configuration includes:
- Adjustable front track bar
- Upgraded pitman arm
- Larger track bar drop bracket
These components are added to maintain proper axle location, steering geometry, and drivability at the increased ride height.
More Ground Clearance. Larger Tires.
RECON XL is designed for owners who want the performance improvements of RECON but need additional clearance underneath their Super C.
The increased ride height provides additional capability when dealing with:
- Uneven campgrounds
- Steep driveway transitions
- Dirt and gravel roads
- Rough access roads
- Off-pavement campsites
- Larger tire combinations
The result is a significantly more capable stance without sacrificing the suspension tuning already engineered into the RECON system.
Exhaust Modification Required
Installation of the WTD progressive rear leaf springs requires modification of the factory exhaust system.
The exhaust must be relocated to exit in front of the rear wheels to provide proper clearance for the larger progressive rear leaf springs.
This modification is required with both RECON and RECON XL systems.
RECON XL FOX 2.5 DSC Package Includes
- Larger front coil springs
- WTD progressive-rate rear leaf springs
- FOX 2.5 remote reservoir shocks
- FOX Dual Speed Compression adjusters
- RV-specific FOX shock valving
- Dual FOX steering stabilizers
- Track bar geometry correction
- 2″ front lift spacers
- 2.5″ heavy-duty rear lift blocks
- Front and rear shock adapters
- Adjustable front track bar
- Upgraded pitman arm
- Larger track bar drop bracket
- Required suspension hardware
RECON Performance. XL Clearance. FOX Adjustability.
The RECON system delivers the suspension performance.
The XL package delivers the additional ground clearance and larger-tire capability.
And the FOX 2.5 DSC shock package gives you the ability to fine-tune that suspension for the way your Super C is actually driven.
More control. More adjustability. More clearance.
